About us

We’re Vehicle Technical Services (VTS) , an independent commercial vehicle repair specialist, providing full service repairs and maintenance on all makes and models of HGV and light commercial vehicles. Established in 1993 and later building our own fully equipped 5 bay workshop facility, we look after many hundreds of vehicles for our customers in the Staffordshire region and wider area.

About the Role

Our techs in this role are the main foundation of our company in which everything is built around and in support of. On each shift is a shift co-ordinator, with a central foreman that works in the day and crosses over the two shifts.

Day Shift 7am-3pm, Mon – Fri

Late Shift 1:30pm – 8:30pm Mon-Sat

This results in an average working week of 38,1/4  hours, Late shifts also receive a supplement for every day worked. Over time we have found this to be the best balance between giving techs social hours and with every other weekend being a long weekend from 3pm fri-1:30pm mon, whilst also ensuring enough capacity to meet workshop needs. We often have a weekly availability for overtime and so those looking to earn more have plenty of opportunity, for example if working a 45 hour week with 7.5 overtime hours paid at 1.5, it can quickly be competitive with any advertised role that are a fixed contract of similar hours.

Due to the way our workshop runs, we prefer a candidate who has a self starting and pro active approach, it is not our aim to micro manage and constantly man manage, we are looking for a tech that knows what they are doing, has experience and competence, and wants to join a place where their efforts are respected. where they can be left to do the task at hand, crack on in an efficient and safe manner and have an enjoyable time whilst doing it. 


Main Responsibilities

– Routine maintenance of HGVs and trailers
– Fault diagnosis and repairs using modern equipment
– Preparing vehicles for DVSA inspections and MOTs
– Electrical and emissions diagnostics (AdBlue, EGR, etc.)
– General repairs and maintenance
– Engine and driveline work
– Working alongside a professional, friendly team

Ideal Candidate

– NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
– Confident diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults
– Experienced in carrying out PMIs to DVSA standards
– Trailer and HGV repair knowledge essential
– IRTEC accreditation a bonus
– HGV licence preferred (not essential)
– Reliability, independence and pride in workmanship
